CMS posts new inpatient base rates
by David Hochheiser
CMS has posted revised versions of its inpatient base rates. These newest revisions correct errors the agency made in its Oct 2nd changes.
These just published rates are in response to President Bush’s signing of the "TMA, Abstinence Education, and QI Programs Extension Act of 2007," which changed the MS-DRG documentation and coding adjustment from –1.2 percent to –0.6 percent for FY2008. According to CMS:
“Medicare claims processing systems have incorporated the software updates to accommodate both the September 28, 2007 Correction Notice and the "TMA, Abstinence Education, and QI Programs Extension Act of 2007", thus ensuring that claims with discharge dates of October 1, 2007 or later are processed with the correct rates.”
The most current version of the CMS’ FY2008 IPPS rates can be downloaded here.

These rates are not an update due to CMS issue, but instead in response to the Bill that the president signed that forced CMS to cut the reduction in base rates from 1.2% to 0.6%
