PHCS®

The Ingenix Prevailing Healthcare Charges System (PHCS) is a powerful database tool that helps you manage your costs and develop your fee schedule for out-of-network and non-negotiated services and negotiate service contracts with greater confidence.
The PHCS charge payment system is designed to help you manage costs and review claims with confidence.

Current Data

Originally created by HIAA, this highly respected system entails more than 1 billion current, unique, and continuously updated provider charge records now in use by many of the largest private and government-sector health care companies.

Confidence Accompanies Good Data

  • Access objective data for local charge levels
  • Negotiate fees more effectively
  • Manage reimbursement risk
  • Control administrative costs
  • Ingenix support for provider appeals

Well-Established Standards

PHCS employs actual charge data and calculated conversion factors based on the book, Relative Values for Physicians to derive Relative and Actual Charge Data (RACD) amounts. Ingenix collection and scrubbing methods avoid data duplication within the product.

Industry-Recognized Benchmarks

PHCS was created by HIAA in 1973 with submissions from a broad base of health insurance companies. Though no longer affiliated with Ingenix PHCS now collects provider charge data from more than 100 major contributors in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
