Ingenix Health Manager – Giving Individuals a New, Data-Driven Way to Improve Health and Care Management

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Ingenix Health Manager increases effectiveness of wellness and management programs, improving health outcomes for consumers and increasing ROI for plans

AHIP INSTITUTE 2007, LAS VEGAS, June 20, 2007 Ingenix, a leading health information technology company, today announced the launch of Ingenix Health Manager, which engages individual consumers directly to encourage and motivate them toward better health behaviors. Leveraging sophisticated direct marketing models and other methodologies, Ingenix Health Manager creates both better health outcomes for consumers and a better return on investment for insurance plans.

“Lifestyle-related chronic conditions are the leading driver of medical costs in the United States today. People want to be healthy, and employers and providers want to guide them in the right direction,” said Dave Ostler, executive vice president of Ingenix. “With its unique 360-degree view of individual consumers’ health needs and media preferences, Ingenix Health Manager can help custom-tailor individual outreach programs that lead to both better health and decreased costs.”

Launched today at the AHIP Institute 2007 in Las Vegas, Ingenix Health Manager is designed to improve the effectiveness of health and care management outreach programs. It is based on the premise that engaging consumers before they fall ill is more cost-effective than only engaging them afterwards. Ingenix Health Manager enables early, active engagement by looking at a broad spectrum of consumer behaviors and attributes, tailoring messages to meet individual needs and preferences, and thus empowering individuals to take control of their health.

360o Health Profile

Traditional outreach programs typically target people who are already sick because they rely on health care and pharmacy claims data. Ingenix Health Manager examines each consumer from many different angles, leveraging the assets of the company’s Consumer Intelligence Warehouse. It includes a broad array of information on the consumer, everything from demographic data to personal media preferences. For example, does a particular customer prefer e-mail or print brochures? This allows payers and employers to develop a 360o Health Profile for each individual. Because they know their individual customers, plans and employers can tailor messages to support desired health behaviors.

For example, a stay-at-home mom who uses tobacco might respond positively to a pitch for a smoking cessation program that emphasizes the dangers of secondhand smoke and role-modeling to children. In contrast, an on-the-go executive might be more readily persuaded by messages about the difficulties of finding a smoking lounge in most airports and the career liabilities of being the only smoker in the office.

“Personalization is the key to engagement in programs designed to reduce lifestyle risk factors,” said Ostler. “Give individuals the right information in the right format and at the right time, and they will respond to it with real behavioral change.”

Ongoing Reporting and Analysis

Ingenix Health Manager provides ongoing reporting and analysis of results, enabling plans and employers to track and improve health outreach and management programs. By comparing a comprehensive inventory of current programs against multiple populations within a plan or employer group, Ingenix Health Manager can spot program overlaps and gaps, and identify new messaging opportunities.

Ingenix Health Manager is supported by two related Ingenix products.  Ingenix Impact Provider™ is an easy-to-use web portal that enables health care providers to access their patient’s health history, current status, and compliance with care guidelines.
