Ingenix's Data Quality Methods Featured in "Challenges of Managing Information Quality in Service Organizations" by Dr. Latif Al-Hakim

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., September 25, 2006 - Ingenix, a leading health information company, today announced that a case study of its data quality methodology has been made the topic of the first chapter of a book by Dr. Latif Al-Hakim, Challenges of Managing Information Quality in Service Organizations, issued by Idea Group Publishing. The text is designed for graduate and undergraduate university use, plus reference by professional practitioners of information management.

"Ingenix pursues the highest standards for our data in order to maximize our customers' benefit from this resource," said Chris Goggin, chief information officer, Ingenix. "The size and the quality of the databases we maintain drive the value of the information we provide to our customers enabling them to evaluate and advance the quality of health care and ultimately, decrease costs."

Ingenix uses a comprehensive, proactive approach to attain data quality that combines elements of Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), Total Quality Management (TQM), and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and correct root cause process issues that create data errors. Ingenix's approach to the data quality challenge has been presented at multiple Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) information quality conferences as well as profiled in Dr. Al-Hakim's text.

Ingenix databases hold more than 300 terabytes of information, with each terabyte comprising approximately one thousand billion bits of data. One of the primary Ingenix databases, known as "Galaxy," serves as a single source of member, care provider, policy, product, pharmacy, financial, and statistical claims data. This database contains many years' worth of integrated, longitudinal medical, pharmacy and lab data on a population that includes more than 30 million Americans. The database is continually expanding and is expected to include data on more than 40 million individuals by the end of 2007.
