Foundations of Medical Terminology. Medicine has its own set of unique words and terms. While we may be familiar with some terms, others will be new and some are even confusing. The medical community has long used medical terminology to communicate and describe conditions, diseases, symptoms and procedures. Many of these terms come from other languages such as Latin, Greek and occasionally Arabic. This course will introduce students to medical terminology and the history of medical terminology. The course can be an orientation or training tool for those individuals who need a basic understanding of medical terminology such as those working in customer service, claims processing, coordination of benefits departments, prior authorization and utilization review.
